SMS messaging technology (1 Viewer)

hey peeps, anyone know how SMS technology works - i'm trying to set it up so that text message data can be sent to my website database - this would not be dissimilar to how i imagine competitions are run on radio and tv shows where the answer and entrant name are sent by SMS. how does that work?

seems like something a SMS gateway service could offer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS_gateways) though an API.

Thanks mr.Mock! I haven't done tonnes of research on this but if you are interested in the area the following software link has a free trial download and has lots some good developer info.. in the meantime, i continue my research
