Me too. The cops I know and the cops I've met all say the dog-handlers and horseback division are devoted to their animals.

But if a skanger or a cop or anyone else set their pet on me I'd have no hesitation in kicking some doggy-face.

Yeah, but don't you think that training a dog to be a vicious attack animal is pretty cruel in the first place? I've seen plenty of animal owners who 'dote' on their pet but still obviously (but not intentionally) treat it like shit.

With the execption of retrievers I think all modern breeds are 'attack' dogs of some description- so training them to bring out their instincts couldn't be regarded as cruel per se. Not training or socialising a dog could be considered crueller if you wanted to be pedantic. I get your drift though.

Dehumanising cops and portraying them as evil automotons of the state is quite simplistic don't you think? it's the way all conflicts are inflamed by interest groups be they states, ethnic groups or politically motivated activists.

No...they dehumanise themselves, wielding power as a weapon. I'd completely agree with Eoin's statement.

From what I've seen, cops treat their animals in exactly the same way they treat anything else at their disposal - as tools to use against you. They might get angry and bash you more for injuring the dog/horse, but only becuse you've damaged their 'property'. I'd say they mostly don't give a fuck about how the animal feels.

If the cops are inhumane enough to set vicious dogs on a crowd then they are responsible for whatever happens to the dog when those people are defending themselves, to be fair. It doesn't matter how much of a dog lover you are if somethings about to bite you or get you 9 months in jail I think natural thing to do is defend yourself. Obviously I don't think people should go out to attack police animals.

In gothenburg the dogs were so rabid they turned on the cops and then each other, it's not a healthy situation to bring dogs into. I'm not a vegan or a crust so I don't know how they'd react except that I know an anecdote about how one vegan crust reacted.
