Single Parent Accomodation with UCC (1 Viewer)

Was just on to UCC Campus Accom. there after seeing an ad for a newly built complex that has three 2bed flats reserved for single parents attending UCC. It also accepts rent allowance. Those of you who know the rent allowance system know that you'd never be lucky enough to get somewhere with decent heating/facilities at 750 a month... Anyway, thought I couldnt believe my luck until I rang them up about it.

Turns out only the parent is allowed to live there unless the kid happens to be a registered student of UCC too.

Where the fuck is the baby/kid supposed to live?

That can't be right. Why would the flats have two bedrooms if only one person could live there? Check it again, I'd say

That makes no sense at all. You would never be approved for Rent allowance as a single parent if your
child isnt living with you.

Yeah, something is seriously up there. I spent almost 3 months looking for a place for me and the little lad. Ended up with a fairly decent sized one bedroom in Rathmines for 1000 a month. That's about as good as it gets in Dublin I'd say. Central heating included in the rent too which is fucking great!

At the same time though... Ireland sucks.

surely the majority of single parents attending the college would have babies or young children [as opposed to having someone of student age]?

I'm getting onto the a.office to see what the full story is but the main gist of it is that, when it opened, a mother and her baby were living there until officials came round and evicted her on the grounds of "section 50" that means that no non-student is allowed to live there. (smells of tax breaks to me)
anyway, fuck em. something will turn up.
In the meantime, I'M GOING BACK TO COLLEGE!!!
