Brooklyn band She Keeps Bees features Jessica Larrabee on vocals and guitar and Andy LaPlant on drums.
Formed in 2006, the New York duo play raw, stripped-down blues-rock and have drawn comparisons with Patti Smith, Cat Power and White Stripes (in reverse!)
Their debut album ‘Minisink Hotel’ was released in 2006 and was described by NYC’s Other Music as ‘the best album you’ve ever heard.’
Their sophomore full-length album ‘Nests’ was described by The Observer as ‘sparse, soulful and defiantly retro’, while their third LP released in 2011,‘Dig On’ received high praise from the BBC as an “album of fire, spirit and sweat.’ Drowned In Sound promise ‘she (Larrabee) has amazing control over her vocals, able to simultaneously be fiery and reserved, seductive and vaguely crude.’
She Keeps Bees are ready to give you a taste of what’s got these music critics talking. This music is simple, gritty and downright sexy and it’s a show you don’t want to miss.
‘With their primal thumping and hollering, this boy-girl duo make a raunchy racket with their rough-and-ready blues-rock’
The Guardian ‘Band Of The Day’
‘A sultry mix of shuffling rhythms, dark, bluesy riffs and melodies that are simply aching with longing’
NME
“It’s the sparseness of the arrangements and the warmth of Larrabee’s voice which will initially snare you, but these are songs that are primed to get under your skin.”
The Irish Times
‘Stripped-to-the-bone and down-durdy chunk of blues-splashed, garage-reared rock n soul’
Time Out
Drunken Boat
Alternative, rocky, sloppy, folky, noisy band from Dublin.
Reviews of Tied in Knots (2012)
State.ie “Influences of Pavement, Sonic Youth Modest Mouse are evident in the songwriting and atmosphere: guitars caress the ears then groan (like on the irresistible ‘Santiago’), clockwork precision drums parts and choice vocals that create a beautiful sense of exhaustion and disillusion.”
Golden Plec “ Drunken Boat have delivered an irresistible collection of aching, yet somehow paradoxically heartening songs, affecting and cathartic in equal measure.”
WeAreNoise.com “...it’s refreshing to hear a band emerge from the studio with a real live-sounding piece of music...”
