hi. we have a room to rent immediately in our really nice house in cabra.

it is 317 euro per month plus a deposit of 317 euro.

please if you're interested let me know at [email protected] (or send a text to 086-3056968 ) as the fuckers in work have blocked my hotmail address.

we need someone to move in now as the girl who was supposed to move in last night has dropped out.

if you know of anyone please let me know!

thanks.

herv.

yeah, i was thinking about a joke along those lines, but the seriousness of the situation made me think again.

*cue world's smallest violin solo*

and they've blocked daft.ie in work so i can't post it there: back to the evening herald again i suppose.

grrr.

try there

cheers pete, got into daft in a net caf. later on.

herv - you could try using http://www.the-cloak.com to get to see daft.ie at work. You can surf the web via that site ... without your boss seeing what sites you are visiting. but eventually they will wonder - 'why has herv spent 4 hours on the-cloak.com'

sure give it a go

.

deadly. deadly deadly! i'll give it a go tomorrow. the only thing is that they've actually blocked the sites at the source, theres a web filter in effect, but i'll give it a go. thanks a million. you've just made me (provisionally at least...) very happy chappy. thanks.

What webfilter? As far as i know, there's ways around most of them... google cache, converting the host's dotted-decimal IP to ornery decimal, plus the cDc are due to release peek-a-booty soon (i think)

pete, the intriguing web combobulations you speak of ... methinks these things could be very useful to anyone who surfs at work. any more info??

i nearly shat my pants in my last job (emphasis on past tense) when my boss told everyone, while we were having a beer, what they were looking at on the web that day. effective strategy though.

"donal - you were on http://www.netbabyworld.com hotmail and thumped.com for 4 hours today"

.

ok - in brief

peek-a-booty
"The goal of the Peekabooty Project is to create a product that can bypass the nation-wide censorship of the World Wide Web practiced by many countries.
...
Peekabooty is software that enables people inside countries where the Web is censored to bypass those censorship measures. The theory behind it is simple: bypass the firewalls by providing an alternate intermediary to the World Wide Web."

The same principles should work for people in companys using content filtering software like Websense etc. It's like one of those anonymous proxy sites that mask your true destination, but rather than it being one URL (that could easily be added to lists of blocked sites) it works on a more distributed basis like kazaa or napster, so you'd have to block most of the internet to defeat it. Or at least that's the theory. I think.

Google Cache
Look up the page in question in google, then access it through their cache. Not sure about the practicalities of this method. Supposed to work for accessing your POP3 mail via www.mail2web.com though. Anyone?

Converting the IP Address
This one might still work. I read about it in 2600...

1. Get the IP address of the site
C:\>ping www.ireland.com

Pinging www.ireland.com [195.7.33.37] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 195.7.33.37: bytes=32 time=125ms TTL=120
Reply from 195.7.33.37: bytes=32 time=106ms TTL=120
Reply from 195.7.33.37: bytes=32 time=130ms TTL=120

Ping statistics for 195.7.33.37:
Packets: Sent = 3, Received = 3, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 106ms, Maximum = 130ms, Average = 120ms

2. Convert the four decimal numbers to four 8 bit binary numbers (the built in windows calculator can do this conversion in scientific mode - but don't forget to pad it out to 8 digits using leading zeros!), then concatenate these into one big 32 bit binary number, so:
195=11000011
7= 00000111
33=00100001
37=00100101

195.7.33.37 = 11000011000001110010000100100101

3. Convert this 32 bit binary number to decimal & stick a http:// in front of it:
11000011000001110010000100100101 = http://3272024357
This seems to be very flaky for me though and is refusing to work right now.

Or you could ignore what i just wrote and use this calculator instead:

Of course, if your sysadmin person has been clever (s)he will have added a list of keywords to be blocked, so no amount of fiddling will get you access... For example, your company may allow access to thumped.com but they might have a profanity filter that would block access to any sites with the word "fuck" on them - so on some days you'd get access to certain pages / sites , on other days you wouldn't, depending on the level of vulgarity on show.

Oh and I'm up for work in a few hours.

i hate you all
