Friends,

On Friday June 27th we're launching our new album. It's called "Hames". It will be released on the Lazybird label in CD and iTunes download formats. And, to be honest, we think it's kind of special.

The launch gig will be in the legendary Boom Boom Room, which is now located downstairs in Murray's of O'Connell Street. We'd love it if you came down, immersed yourselves in the gently undulating soundwash and – hey, why not? – bought the CD.*

The support act shouldn't be missed: Dara O'Brien features in a tabla and sitar duo that will question everything you've ever held dear about the Occident. Furthermore, in between the live excursions, an intricate web of silvery tunes will be spun by Lazybird's own Neil "Before Me" Donovan, a man whose love of the drone is equalled only by his fear of the solo, and Paul Watts, whose thoughtful passion for the sonic arts reflects a profound hatred of both classical music and children.

Where is Murray's? That's what I'm about to tell you. Coming from the Liffey direction, Murray's is located on the right hand side of O'Connell Street, not far from the end of it. Doors will open at 8-ish pm and admission will be 10-ish euro. Please bear in mind that downstairs Murray's is not a big venue, so don't arrive too late.

* Some reasons why you might consider buying "Hames":

• "Hames" is unique. It could be compared to the sound of instruments you never heard being played by people you never met wearing underpants they never got used to.

• Everything on "Hames" was recorded in "open" sessions i.e. sessions in which we had no songs, no musical structures and no idea where the Sam Hill the music was going next. It's not jazzy – it's just makey uppy. (It's not proggy either ,okay?)

• "Hames" was recorded in one of those frenzied bursts of creative activity, like the one in which Mary Shelley wrote "Frankenstein". Except it took over a year and a half. And then we had to edit it.

• "Hames" is Rollers/Sparkers' first release since 2004 and the band has changed a lot since then. If you're expecting to hear pumping new remixes of our chart-bottoming classics, you'll be pleasantly disappointed.

• There may be a question on "Hames" in next year's Junior Cert History paper. (E.g. "It has been said that "Hames" by Rollers/Sparkers regularly crossed the border between music and sound without ever possessing so much as a J1 visa'. Discuss.")

• The sleeve artwork of "Hames" may please or worry you. Either way, it will almost certainly give rise to a sensation, and in these modern times that has to be worth something.

• "Hames" is like a really fashionable ear infection i.e. after everyone else has caught it, you'll feel you should have too, but by then it will be too late and people will scorn your so-called "razor-sharp hearing".
