Introduced in 1985, the PAD-8 Octapad broke new ground in the development of electronic percussion.

With its eight independent vinyl pads and a unique design, the Octapad contains no sounds, but instead transmits information to sound modules via MIDI—the universal interface (introduced only two years before in 1983). This innovative concept of a percussion controller triggering an external sound source excited electronic musicians of the day, and allowed them to stay on the cutting edge for years to come.

With its touch-sensitive pads, breakthrough design and MIDI control, the Octapad was the first in a distinguished lineage of Roland percussion products, culminating in the current pinnacle of electronic percussion, the Roland V-Drums.

The Pad-80 is an eight pad MIDI controller that allows you to play various types of MIDI sound sources. The pads memory can store up to 64 different patches.

MIDI specification: Control of modulation, pitch bend and aftertouch using a foot pedal. The Pad-80 has a patch chain function that allowed a series of 32 patches to be arranged in any sequence, eight of these chains could be stored in memory.
