Meh. I read NY's biography and he seems like he's a dick to people around him, which is way worse in my book than having your music on Spotify
Two wrongs don't make a right!
I struggle to see any worth in Spotify or Apple.
I never got to grips with listening to music on my phone though...

YouTube or bandcamp are much better

This bewilders me. I've met a few people over the years that will say they get all their music from youtube. Always mind boggling.
Why???
There is far more music on YouTube.
Most modern (DIY) bands I like don't post their music on Spotify or Apple.

Lots of music I looked for on my friends Spotify wasn't there - even many albums by famous bands were missing.

It's no good for unreleased material, last week's live gig, demos, radio sessions etc.

I only listen to music much on my phone when I am on long journeys.
There's 30 minutes of music downloaded on my phone.
I never had a smart phone until 2020.
I just never transitioned to downloading music.
I still mostly listen to records, tapes and CDs.
But I listen to YouTube on my laptop a LOT since 2005.
From 2009 onwards there's been huge amounts of audio tracks on YouTube.

YouTube premium through an Indian vpn is probably one of the best deals you can get for music streaming.

Conversion rate for Indian Rupee to Euro https://g.co/kgs/W2T4Fqf
Heard it said here about 2022 that it costs Indians about 3 Euro per month.
EDIT:
Actually...
189 Rupees per month
1 rupee = 0.011 Euros....
2.08 Euros

some else* pays for my spotify so that kinda makes the decision for me.

*technically lots of people do, most of them musicians.

If you are neil young the shelf life on taking a stance is probably limited because largely people are lazy.

I think spotify is a pretty good deal for most people.....I just don't want to pay them.

Never listen to music on my phone either.

Just to be clear, when y'all are talking about Youtube, you mean Youtube Music, which is the current iteration of Google Music
Not cueing up endless videos to stream music from

Anyone I know who only streams from YouTube does not pay for it. Funny enough, these are too often the same people who sometimes will say that spotify rips off the bands
