... by the Smiths might be No.1 at Christmas

Being used in an ad campaign in the UK, by the John Lewis chain

"The company is spending £6 million on the campaign, and the way things are shaping up, the song could well be a surprise Christmas No 1 (it’s currently at 14/1 with the bookmakers)". Lots of love for this song, but....hmmmmm

That's nice and all but who gives an absolute fuck what the Xmas Number 1 is anymore? I loved it when I was a nipper, of course. The excitement of tuning into TOTP but it's all ruined now.

It's like the corporates are trying to present an alternative to x-factor uninspired yawn-musak by disinterring once-innovative songs from the 80s and 90s and ignoring anything interesting going on nowadays, presumably becasue they don't own the rights to it so some such self interested bollox. Cants.

As long as it's not Adele I'll be happy.

It's going to be Adele isn't it?

"A commercial has only made me feel genuinely sad on one occasion – 25 January 1990, when a falling billboard nearly killed 'Allo 'Allo star Gorden Kaye."
