Is there a MAC program to learn and see some piano chords?

I can find onr for windows but who uses windows to do music

well,

chords are all built on a simple formula.

key of C with numbers:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
C D E F G A B C

the formula for any major chord is 1 - 3 -5

so c major is

C E G

if you want a 7th, add a B (7) note from the scale.

if you want a 2nd, add a D (2) note from the scale.

and so on.

once you get the hang of chord constructing, you dont need a teacher, just knowing where your notes are at is enough.

an inversion is basically a rearrangement of the formula.

an inversion of C could be

E C G
3 1 5

and you have a choice wether or not to root this with you left hand on the bass side.

so an inversion of Cmaj7 could be:

3 1 5 7
E C G B

so there you go.

Why didnt they just use 1 to 12 for notes instead of letters and always referencing them to numbers?

its only the western system really. its better off with letters though. indian raga musicians recognize 22-24 intervals in an octave depending on a region. oriental musicians work on a 6 note basis, which is our pentatonic with one dissonant.

one reason not to use numbers would be that C7 would have to be called

1'7, which would make a sequence from C7 - Bb2 look like this

17'17'7'17'17'1'7''1'7'17''7'7'1'7 or thereabouts.
