The Book by David Mitchell, not the song by Mr Lennon.

Just finished it, fantastic stuff, set in Tokyo, funny, surreal, slightly mad, some really nice lines and a likeable narrator for a change.

Now I need a new book to read, any sugestions?
Somebody usually comes up with something good here....

Stuff I like: Paul Auster, Haruki Murakami, Douglas Coupland etc

Thanks
Jim

have you read Ghostwritten by David Mitchell yet...it's his first book and much better than Number9Dream (Which is a good book though).

books I would recommend :

The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart
anything by Kurt Vonnegut
The Ice Storm by Rick Moody
and for something completely different
City of Quartz: Excavating the Future in Los Angeles by Mike Davis.

Written in the early 90's this looks at how L.A came to be and where it's heading. it's a crazy book but well worth the read.

dunno, i thought no9dream was better than ghostwritten (the ending went a little off the rails - interesting, but a bit flight-of-fancy)
he's got a new one, cloud atlas, out at the moment (I, the pauper, am waiting for the paperback, cos i can't be spending all that cash on a giant big hardback edition)

read neal stephenson - cryptomonicon, snow crash, the diamond age - class bukes.

Yeah I really liked Ghostwritten too, especially the Tokyo Jazz shop chapter and the Host spirit one. Thats why I bought Number9Dream. I really like the way he writes.

I've read a lot of Kurt Vonnegut and enjoyed most of them.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Might look out for that LA one..

hey if you think that's simple, you should see this cd we're playing on the radio tonight. the guy's contact number has too many digits. that's pretty dumb.

But you don't drop the 'to' after 'ok', right?
The idiom would appear only to occur in a limited number of cases, for example in the use of verbs such as 'allow' and 'try', yes.

now it's a thread that references music...

10 points if you can name the band
20 points if you can work out what it means
and
30 points if you can work out the relevance of the quote.

Enjoy !

EinsturzendeNeubauten (or something)??

20 points if you can work out what it means:

Two things are infinite: Stupidity and the universe

and
