macbook partition/dual boot/usb boot (1 Viewer)

a friend of mine has tiger version 11 (i think) and he needs version 9 to run his soundcard properly, so is there a way of booting a version say on usb/external drive with version 9 on it or can you partition the drive and put 9 on that and have a dual boot option. hope this makes sense

actually can you rollback the versions of the operating system?

you mean run os 9 on a different partition on the computer? you can I'm sure... I seem to recall that most macs were dual boot osx/os9 when osx came out first.
