I said it earlier in this thread somewhere that I was at a Q+A with Stuart Carolan at EP in 2013. At it he said he had it in his head that the series woud run to 6 seasons. Of course that was all dependant on getting funding, etc. Hard not to see a 6th season being funded given the viewing figures of season 5.

Love/Hate: Patrick is the new Nidge as Traveller set to take over gangster's crown in new series of hit show - Irish Mirror Online

Love/Hate’s Patrick is set to take over from murdered crime boss Nidge as the country’s favourite gangster.

RTE confirmed a sixth series is being developed but will not be on our screens until at least 2016.

And the Irish Mirror can reveal writer Stuart Carolan will now delve into the murky underground of pipe bomber Patrick, played by John Connors, and his Traveller family.

A source said: “Stuart is fascinated by the Traveller community. It was the only storyline that really interested him in season five and now Patrick has killed Nidge it seems a natural progression to follow Patrick’s story.”

Connors, 24, is said to be thrilled with the news and was congratulated this week by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, who played psycho gangster Nidge for the past five years.

The pair met last week at the opening night of Howie The Rookie in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre where Vaughan-Lawlor played the one-man show for four nights.

The source added: “Tom is happy to pass the gauntlet on to Patrick. He was really impressed with his acting ability this year and he knows Stuart will write something amazing for him.”

Connors blew audiences away with his performance in the fourth episode of series five of the hit gangland drama which is sure to land him an IFTA nomination.

... Speaking to the Irish Mirror recently Connors admitted Carolan consulted him on a regular basis in regards to the Traveller storyline.
