i want to buy a zoom lense for my camera (im on a budget) its for a cannon eos 40d. the zoom i was looking at is 569 euro for a 70-400 zoom. its aperture is f4.
is that a good price?
what diference will it make to my photos if i can only keep the shutter open to f4 at the widest. i mainly take nature pictures. but am wanting to go into ppl pictures.

A larger aperture gives you a shallower depth of field. Lets you blur the background in portrait shots. Get the canon 50mm 1.8. Only about 100 quid and well worth the price

im looking to buy a few canon EF lenses wide angle, long focal. its for ppl pictures. i have the 50mm 1.8 its good for half shots of people not that great for full length.

whats a good website to go to. i know there is one in england but ive lost the name. any clues

I know. I remember the saga. But I've used them a lot since. They can be a bit snotty alright though. But when you're on a budget, they're a necessary evil. Saved me a small fortune based on Oirish prices.

Actually, anyone got any other - similar priced - internet sites with good stock that won't get you caught for VAT?

This guy is 100% fine and fantastic prices I've ordered some expensive stuff of him (including my 70-200L 2.8 IS) as have others from a photography forum I use.

I read my reviews of Canon from here..

and for general reading..

and OP what is this lense 70-400 you speak of?
I know of the Canon 100-400

Lens is deadly. What kind of pics do i want to post to show how good it is? I've been using it mostly around the house (shack) to test the digital grain on the D300 at ISO3200 and ISO6400, what would make some good test photos for a lens?

Yours confusedly
