We here at Lazybird are proud to present the return appearance of US guitarist JACK ROSE, along with local boys'n'girl YOU KISS BY THE BOOK, SEÁN ÓG & DOROTHY MURPHY and THE SPOOK OF THE 13TH LOCK.

JACK ROSE is a twelve-string and slide guitar player of rare talent, being one of the few proper heirs to the idiosyncratic solo folk guitar tradition. He can hush a room with his passionate and transfixing playing full of American folk, bottleneck experimentations, ragtime influences and raga-like sessions.

But he's more than just a traditionalist: he's able to reconfigure raga into a kind of dream music, folk into a deep listening experience and blues into a minimalist freakout. Pure spirit-lifting music that warms the air it travels through. Along with Indian music and pre-war American guitar music, the influence of John Fahey and the so-called Takoma School (Robbie Basho and Max Ochs) is evident in his sound.

His last album, Kensington Blues, was heavily caned by freek-folkers, traditionalists, BBC Radio 3, doom-drone heads and critics. As a member of psych-drone band Pelt, in collaboration with such artists as Glenn Jones, Fursaxa, Mogwai, Chris Corsano, MV&EE and Sunn 0))), and as a solo artist (as Dr. Ragtime and under his own name), Jack's garnered quite an impressive reputation over his career.

His European last summer tour met with uniformly great reviews, praising his strong and tender approach and the dynamic and beautiful music. Lazybird was one of his stops during this tour, and he wowed the audience; we expect this gig to be just as amazing.

SEÁN ÓG is a regular performer at Lazybird, and is a saxophonist of amazing talent. The last time he graced a Lazybird stage, he performed with DOROTHY MURPHY, and we were so transfixed by the show that we've have been waiting for the right time to get them to play again. Dorothy is a jazz vocalist, but not in the traditional sense; she's much more of a Linda Sharrock or Betty Carter than she is an Ella Fitzgerald. Her wordless intonations mimic the sounds of Seán's saxophone and together they create a musical conversation that is as adventurous as it fun.

What do you get when you combine Irish trad, krautrock, American and English folk, a bit of country & western, post-rock and electronica? THE SPOOK OF THE 13TH LOCK. (They're certainly the only band we've ever had play that incorporates banjo feedback into their music.) Named after a poem about a haunted canal lock, the Spook plucks, twangs, yelps, drones and hums songs about dead revolutionaries, partisans and haunted cobblestone streets. They're usually a full band under the command of Allen Blythe, but this time, Allen will be performing alone, with just a banjo and his voice.

Finally, the night will be starting off with a short set from Simon and David, aka YOU KISS BY THE BOOK: sleepy folk tunes, lush harmonies and country licks.

This is a special gig for us: not only do we have three great acts, but it's also our first gig in one of Dublin's nicest venues, the lovely Boom Boom Room, in the upstairs of Conway's Pub on Parnell Street. Doors open at 8:30pm, and it's 12 euro in.

Hope to see you there,
