We at Problems at the Pancake House are proud to present this fine showcase of talent from our fair city, along with some out-of-town visitors, which will take place in our regular home of Cleere’s Theatre, Kilkenny on Saturday the 18th of August. From solo piano to disk-scratching madness and folk melodies to atmospheric instrumentals, it promises to be a varied and memorable show.

The night will begin as an intimate, seated affair, starting off with Ennis-native Caitríona Ní Chaitháin, who brings her expressive and thrilling solo piano set to this perfect setting; an enthralling blend of beautiful melodies and powerful bass lines reminiscent of the works of Philip Glass and Michael Nyman, along with some hints of trad, Caitríona’s set should prove to be the perfect start to the night. You can listen to some of her pieces here: myspace.com/caitrionanichaithain

Kilkenny local Danny Coady then makes his debut as Officer Coady; Coady will be known to many through his fine performances with Thompson and 40 Love, and if both those fantastic acts are anything to go by then Officer Coady should prove to be quite the treat indeed.

Moses Moorhouse also makes his debut performance at the night’s show, though most will know him as that ‘Jack O’ Leary chap’ who headlined our first ‘Pancake House’ show way, way back in May. It was an absolute mesmerising performance and we are delighted to host another of his unmissable sets. Prepare for more of his infamous stories, sweet vocals and captivating guitar work which will be complimented on the night by Jane Murphy on cello and Aisling O’ Neil on vocals. myspace.com/mosesmoorhous

Following Moses Moorhouse will be the instrumental group Jazz Panda who also played at the first ‘Pancake House show. Led by Neil Quigley and joined by Peter Lawler, Niall O’ Regan and Stephen Morton, the group’s eclectic set should prove to be a powerful display of atmospheric and electrifying guitar-based pieces. myspace.com/jazzpanda

Following Jazz Panda’s set, the seats will pushed to the back of the theatre to make room for the serious dancing that will inevitably commence as electronic maestros Supernova Scotia take to the stage, bringing their funky mix of electronics, live drums, guitars and sweet falsetto croonings back to Cleere’s for another energetic performance. Formed by Dave Sheenan in 2006 and joined by three-quarters of ‘a safe dry place’ Supernova Scotia played their debut at our last show with Queen Kong before headlining at the Devious Theatre’s fantastic fundraiser gig the next day. myspace.com/supernovascotiaband

They will be followed by Waterford natives You’re Only Massive, who went down a storm at our last show with Queen Kong. Prepare to dance until you’re sick as Megan and Maebh and return to Cleere’s with more of their ridiculously catchy, electro-fused craziness.

The good times will then continue late into the night as local legend Eddie B finishes in style with another of his fantastic DJ sets, bringing the perfect end to what promises to be a perfect night.

The night of course wouldn’t be complete without one of our hand-packaged CDs, free for the first fifty persons through the door. However, instead of the regular split-side, this CD will be a compilation of six acts along with a collection of Stephen Morton’s artwork and is well worth the wee €5 admission fee alone. Be sure to get down early as doors open at 8.30 sharp and CDs are sure to be gone in seconds, if not minutes.

Hope to see you there,
Thank yous all once again,
Problems at the Pancake House peoples.

Kilkenny live night announced
07 Aug 2007

Kilkenny’s most exciting live night, Problems At The Pancake House, is set to continue with a showcase night in Cleere’s Theatre on August 18.

It opens with Ennis native Caitríona Ní Chatháin’s spellbinding, traditional-influenced solo piano-playing. Danny Coady of rootsy combo 40 Love notoriety steps up to the plate after that, and he’s followed by Jack O’Leary (now trading as Moses Moorhouse). Be prepared for filigree guitar-work and vocals like the first breath of autumn, interspersed with rambling digressions worthy of Bill Bailey.

Instrumental combo Jazz Panda follow, promising to cool the venue to an ice-house with glacial guitar landscapes. Luckily, Supernova Scotia are on hand to heat things up a little, marrying fragile electronica to live drums to form a truly electrifying whole.

Keeping the dancing going from here will be Waterford’s finest techno/hip-hop trio You’re Only Massive, whose intricate backing tracks and quicksilver rapping will no doubt drop jaws and instigate much uninhibited booty-shaking.

DJ Eddie Brennan is billed as “bringing the perfect end to a perfect night”, and that’s just what he’ll do.

Tickets are €5 at the door, and there’s even a free CD to commemorate the night.
