MOUNT KIMBIE
With familiar beats underneath otherworldly productions, Mount Kimbie are arguably responsible for the birth of the term “post-dubstep.” Dominic Maker and Kai Campos formed Mount Kimbie while both were attending Southbank University in London. In early 2009 they released their debut EP, “Maybes”, via the Hotflush Recordings label. Later in the year a second EP, “Sketch on Glass”, appeared and was followed by remixes for the likes of the Big Pink, Foals, and the xx. Hotflush released their full-length debut, “Crooks & Lovers”, in 2010.
Recorded in their South London studio, new album 'Cold Spring Fault Less Youth’ combines the electronic sensibilities of ‘Crooks & Lovers’ (2010) but sees Mount Kimbie move out of the bedroom and into a professional studio. Dominic Maker and Kai Campos are joined in collaborations on two tracks with King Krule who lends his distinctive, discontented vocals to ‘You Took You Time’ and ‘Meter, Pale, Tone’.
JAGWAR MA
They might hail from the sunny climes of Sydney, Australia but Jagwar Ma’s heart sounds as if it would be more at home in Manchester in the late 1980’s. A duo featuring Jono Ma and Gabriel Winterfield, Jagwar Ma first got bloggers talking last year with glimpses of their danceable psychedelia-grooves and pulsating, baggy acid house. Zane Lowe was quick to declare himself a fan "Hottest Record In the World Right Now" and the band are now set to release their debut album this summer.
