Celebrating their 20th Anniversary
Mogwai

Cork Opera House
Wednesday 17th June, 8pm
On 26 June 1995 Mogwai gathered together in the Glasgow living room of Stuart Braithwaite's parents to rehearse together for the first time. 20 years later, they will play Cork Opera House on Wednesday 17th June, to celebrate two decades of breaking noise curfews worldwide.
Mogwai are Dominic Aitchison (bass), Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Martin Bulloch (drums), Barry Burns (keyboard, computer, guitar) and John Cummings (guitar, computer). They formed in Glasgow in 1995 as a quartet, with Burns joining in 1998. After a succession of well-received releases and having developed a reputation for their fearsome live shows, Mogwai eventually released their debut LP Mogwai Young Team in 1997.
The intervening two decades saw the ever-progressive Mogwai evolve their sound and instrumentation and release a further seven studio albums. This is no more apparent than with last year's critically acclaimed Rave Tape; an album filled with pulsing, oscillating synths, layered over Kraut-rock textures and vocoder-drenched lyrics, which cracked the UK Top 10 and yielded a worldwide sell out tour. Summer 2014 saw a comprehensive deluxe edition of their classic 1999 album Come On Die Young and headline sets on stages at Glastonbury and Latitude, before the latest in their career-spanning set of stunning EPs, Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1, closed out the year. This highly anticipated anniversary concert promises to be a special night of performance from one of Scotland’s most compelling and restlessly inventive bands. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience them live at Cork Opera House on Wednesday 17th June. Standing and seated tickets available.
Rave Tapes Press Quotes
‘It is an elaborate and intelligent album from a group that isn't interested in grabbing their listeners by the scruff of their collective neck anymore; instead, today’s Mogwai are purveyors of nuance and subtlety, and fine ones at that.’ The Best Line of Fit
'Mogwai’s newest offering, Rave Tapes, is a brooding masterpiece of a record.' Delusions of Adequacy
'They sound leaner and more quietly aggressive than ever--a streamlined, seething version of themselves.' Q Magazine
'It is perhaps the most immediate and musically diverse album they've recorded.' musicOMH.com

Tickets: €30 (seated) & €27.50 (standing) (Booking fee may apply)
