In a fifteen minute ruling in the High Court today, Judge Peart decided that Jim Borek was going to face extradtion on two counts of public disorder and one count of GBH with intent.
His defence had been that the crimes he was charged with in England did not correspond to crimes in the Republic and his lawyers also challenged the warrants on technical grounds. The judge dismissed both points saying that there 'may well have been some fault in the warrants' but that 'this court is in the real world'.
Afterwards I spoke to Jim for a few minutes, he was pretty tired and unhappy but not as upset as we thought he would be. He now has fifteen days to decide if he wants to lodge an appeal. If he does the case could drag out for a long time and the time he spends here isn't counted, so he probably won't.
If anyone has any messages I will be going in in the morning at about ten or eleven.
