yeah it's pointless enough. controversy over who they chose for the inquiry panel:

Sir Martin Gilbert, a historian who supported the invasion of Iraq and claimed in 2004 that George W. Bush and Tony Blair may one day "join the ranks of Roosevelt and Churchill."

getting more interesting, lord goldsmith is up. he was attorney general at the time and it was him who gave legal advice to blair on whether going to war would be illegal. if he said it was, then they couldn't go. over four months or so, he flip flopped from saying it was completely illegal to could be legal to legal.
