With appearances supporting Blur in Hyde Park in London, live on the Jools Holland show and appearing as part of Gorillaz' live show later in the year, 2009 is proving to be a good year for the 8 brothers (literally) who make up the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Hypnotic Brass Ensemble gained the name for their style and their band from a chance incident. Their talent however is anything but chance. This band was formed on the south side of Chicago in 1986 as a family group known as "the Phil Cohran Youth Ensemble", the group consisted of eight horn-playing blood brothers led by their father and teacher. In 1999 the brothers refined and combined their efforts and began performing a new style of brass music they called "Hypnotic". In 2005 Hypnotic' released their sophomore album "Jupiter" reeling off the success of the freshman LP's 325,000 units sold independently (Merc Records). In the past few years, they have travelled all over the world playing for audiences of all genres. This talented family of performers wrote every song on their sophomore release while at the same time recording collaborations with artists such as GhostFace Killah and Tony Allen. Fiercely original and independent refusing two major labels deals and along the way always hypnotising crowds with they’re original take as bold and groundbreaking as it is brassy.
