Taking their inspiration from the revelry of music and friends, the bitter end of the bottle, the bruising passage of life and all that comes with it, John Blek and the Rats are a fresh folk outfit from Cork whose melancholy is tempered by a penchant for a good ol’ hodown and a hollerin’. Raised on a diet of the American folk and ballads of their fathers, John Blek and the Rats are a band whose main aspiration is the song. Currently recording in an abandoned dentist surgery in West Cork, John Blek and the Rats' ambition is second only to their desire to write and perform perfect pop records infused with the Americana sensibilities of years gone by. .. .. .............. ...... ...... .... .... Hotpress "It's a classy example of country rock with the odd Springsteen flourish to boot, finely played and sung with an admirable mix of gusto and heartfelt emotion..." "....A truly delicious piece of country-folk..." By Jackie Hayden .. .. "What IS a major surprise is that JOHN BLEK & THE RATS are still unsigned at the time of writing..." "...they are the perfect band to take a Festival crowd by the scruff of the neck and their tuneful, punky brand of Americana soon curries favour with this gathering...." By Whisperin and Hollerin

The Gandhis: (http://thegandhismusic.com/)

Dublin popsters The Gandhis released their debut album ‘You Are My Friend’ through 1969 Records in October 2009 with a sold out launch night in Whelans sandwiched between appearances on RTE's
"Saturday Night With Miriam" and "The Cafe" TV shows.

After releasing their debut single ‘Zaza’, “a hooky, upbeat and original tune, which doesn't rely on trying try to be, or sound like anyone else“ in 2008 they were signed to Dublin label 1969 records.

Their second single ‘Don't you want to be loved by me’ was described by Hot Press as "a bittersweet, perfectly formed morsel of endearing power pop that's instantly appealing" and received airplay on Today fm, 2fm, and Phantom 105.2.

Having developed a strong reputation for their energetic live shows which regularly involve a live brass section and having supported the likes of Villagers, Republic of Loose, , Fight Like Apes, and Ham Sandwich, The Gandhis are.....

"a sweet delight....some of the catchiest pop tunes you're likely to hear all year" Evening Herald

"a great night out is always guaranteed at their gigs" News Of The World

"You Are My Friend consistantly showcases the band's dynamic songwriting and penchant for weird, sprawling pop.....a gem laden album" Sruffdaddy.ie ezine

The Gandhis are currently working on their second album for release in 2011.

The Walpurgis Family is the three piece chamber pop group comprised of Jeroen Saegeman (guitar, vocals, County of Belgium), Wil McDermott (bass, keys, vocals, Municipality of Ireland) and Ruan van Vliet (drums, Kingdom of Dundrum). All family members are based in Dublin, and are members of local indie band Groom.

The debut album ‘Midsummer Party’ was released in May 2010 via the DIY pop collective Popical Island, and contains quiet songs about moving to other countries, the shower, the kitchen, public transportation and even about a mysterious island where all children are happy.

Review of Midsummer Party by Road Records (Dublin): “…the album features a selection of beautifully intimate home recordings, just like all classic mellow indie pop should be made. it kind of reminds me a little bit of yo la tengo going all indie folk, maybe in a slightly more sombre mood with just a hint of belle and sebastian. comes in a lovely big foldout card sleeve too. may 2010”...
