Hefty Horse are running a free event upstairs in Whelans once on a month on a Monday night.
Its FREE in and bands start around 9pm and then we have Hefty DJs until around 2. so come along and listen to great music then dance your ass off to funky soul and country. or other stlyes of dancing music!

Drunken Boat:
Brian Walsh has been recording and writing music and lyrics for the last 13 years. The songs have carried varied influences, many are routed in folk and others in an alternative vein.
In 2007 Brian got together with Simon Brennan in Dublin and put together a mini-album. Hours were spent going through synth sounds and working around guitar lines and loops to create “Cut the Engines, Raise the Sails”. It was an outlet for guitar pieces that could not find a natural home, and was an experiment to see how folk and ambient sounds would work.
In January 2009 he began playing guitar with Dror Zur joining on drums. The new songs are reminiscent of American alternative bands such as Bedhead, New Year, Dirty Three, Pavement, SMOG, Neil Young, Wilco, Codeine, Jim O’Rourke, Built to Spill, Brian Eno, Yo La Tengo, M Ward and Joan of Arc.
By April 2009, the band had a set together and played everywhere the could with The Hollows, At Last An Atlas, Valerie Frances, Windings, Groom, Mumblin Deaf Ro, with heroes Joan of Arc and Love of Everything from Chicago and The Jimmy Cake. They’ve also played in Twisted Pepper and Roisin Dubh on a double headline tour with Autumn Owls in addition to slots in Anseo, Seomra Spraoi and Whelans.
Incorporating pre-recorded loops or samples made with guitars and harmonicas, electric guitar, drums and vocals Brian and Dror produce alternative folk with a willingness to experiment and surprise. Following the release of “Plumb the Depths” in November 2009 Shane joined the band on lead guitar. Filling out the sound and adding intricate guitar lines he has added a new dimension to the band who are increasing their intensity.
Drunken Boat are currently writing new songs for the follow up to “Plumb the Depths”.

Land Lovers:
Land Lovers is five-strong and customisable for parties, luxury cruises and state funerals. Together, they saunter down corridors of guitarry pop, synthy rock and showy sing-songs. They have released two records: a ten-song album called Romance Romance and a 6-song EP called Immovable Feet.

Kramies:
Kramies has toured the United States and Europe For Years. His music has been described as "melancholy and soothing" which makes for a harmonious blend of sad calmness.
