Gothenburg / Göteborg (1 Viewer)

Haven't been there in a while, and I'm having trouble remembering names of things. Also means a lot of this might be out of date.

Things to do:
Liseberg - huge theme park in the middle of the city. Only opens certain times of the year, might not be open yet. Deadly fun. It's also got a huge revolving tower that lets you see over the entire city.
Universeum - Science museum. It's pretty kiddy-friendly, but lots of hands-on stuff to mess with. If you don't mind looking like an idiot as you whisper into a satellite dish, you'll probably enjoy it.

Shopping:
Nordstan is a huge shopping centre that I kept using as my anchor for finding my way around - if I knew how to get to Nordstan, I knew how to get to the train station and I knew how to get home. Not too many actually useful shops in here though.
Haga isn't so much a place to shop as the "artisan" quarter of Gothenburg - it's got lots of little record shops, cafes and shops selling cool, useless junk.
Bengans is a pretty cool record shop in the train station. I think they might have some other shops around the place. This place got most of my spending money.

Going out:
Booiz is real expensive in Sweden. And the off-licenses are all run by the government and are run with fists of iron. In fact, you're almost made to feel as if you're buying child pornography. One good thing though - they have pretty much everything you could ever want. They come with huge argos catalogues of booiz.
Going out isn't much cop. There's the Avenyn, one of the main streets in sweden whose name escapes me. It's got the most pubs in the city. But it's a little meat market-y.
Sticky Fingers is a pretty cool club around the city. I guess it would be a little like Whelans, with better music and less fuckholes clogging the place up.
There's also a club that really reminded me of Fibbers. I can't remember the name of it, but I know it's pretty close to Sticky Fingers.
Oh, and there's another place I remember going that was a little bit out of the way, in a huge old building that looked like a school or a mental hospital. I was having a great time in here until someone punched me in the back of the head cos I was dancing like a monkey.

Eating:
Only remember that there's a huge fancypants shopping centre across the river from Nordstan and in the basement of it is a foodhall that's pretty reasonable and hardly ever packed.
There's also a huge market up near the main bridge, near the cinemas. It's open every day and has a bunch of of cool shops that sell just about everything. Can be a little hard to get seats at some of the restaurants in here, so you're better off buying stuff from the stalls and eating that while you wander around.

there's some cool record shops and a really great bookshop on the Andra Långatan and close to it, you can get yr dose of strippers and tattoos on the same street

Also a pub with a huge selection of beers is just around the corner there, don't remember the name now.

Buy me some chocolate cigarettes from the little shop on Stigbergsliden, ok? And get to know some of the locals, had a terrific time there over a year ago

So - go to vasaparken and towards Majorna from there. Real nice area, basement cafes and tram gets you everywhere. Stay off the extended macdonalds that is the centre.

One of the bestest cities

Thrillo sure seems to know his stuff about Sweden. I'm off to Malmo for a few days in a couple of months. Got any info on that place?

Small place. There's a decent modern art gallery. Dunno what else, it all seems fairly quite and uninteresting but there are some good junk shops and flea markets on the weekends.

Take the train to Copenhagen.

gig wise check out inkonst(folkets park) or kulturbolaget (bergsgatan), soak in a bit of (multi)culture in mollevanstorget (there should be 2 dots over that o by the way), which is a big square that hosts a fruit + veg market in the morning and is surrounded by cafes and bars and some cool small galleries and shops. go to vinyl cafe on amiralsgatan for a nice cup of coffee and some rare neu! records and myriad other hard to gets, actually theres another good second hand record store at the junction of bergsgatan and amiralsgatan. up to pildammsparket or slottsparket for some chilling or feeding about 7 thousand ducks. rent out a pedal boat up around amirals bron and go through the park and around the city. check out the old city and some lovely cafes and over priced bars arounnd lillatorg. lots to do!!! check out a good street map here

does anyone have a recommendation for a relatively inexpensive double room in gothenburg? going over for a long weekend in march. any other extra information would be lovely too!

There's an OK hostel. That's cheap. A bit of a walk outta town. Can't remember the name. Somewhere on a hill, hast haga, or something. You can get a bus.
