given there are folks posting pics here that are made on everything from modern compacts to 1950s press cameras I thought a thread sharing advice, wisdom and fanboy/girl gushing would be interesting...

whats your favourite camera or lens or other gee-gaw?

show us a few pics taken on it..?

for me it probably has to be this yolk;

canonet ql17 - fixed lens rangefinder made in three various versions from mid 60s-80s.
beautiful, fast 1.7 40mm lens. just a really clever, simple little camera. they were the high end compacts of their day, and can be got for as little a 60e on ebay betimes..
great camera for street photography and the likes.

only problems are -
only shutter priority and unmetered manual modes (not that big a deal).
film advance mechanism is its weak point, and it gets wonky with age.
cant get the right batteries - although it'll take the modern equivalent - just have to adjust the iso rating 1 stop..

my OM1n. just a lovely feel in the hand, and nice and light. i do like the hasselblad too, but it's acting the bollix on me at the moment.

have a voucher for €190 for gunns but want to get a flash gun (no punintended). Gunns do 2nd hand shit dont they?

They do but they wouldn't have a huge selection of stuff. Having said that, I went in there looking for a flash gun about a year ago and they had a second-hand Metz right there for me ...

they had a zeiss ikon contessa in the window of the camera exchange a week or two back, for €75. the light meter seemed very sluggish though.

ha! was looking at that the other day (with the logical part of my brain telling me that I dont actually need another old camera...)

ernesto - 50/1.4s can be got for under 300 on ebay betimes - think thats what i paids anyway.

thats 300 for a modern one..

in cheap lens top trumps I think I paid >70 for a smc pentax m 50mm 1.4 . youve got to love 70's slrs!

regret not bringing my nikon fm with me to cambodia as it is one of my fave things to shoot with.

but still. I have this and I shall not be parted from it any time soon.
