That internet poker is just the same as poker machines

incredible number. used to work with a guy who'd be out the back door of work at least once a day to pop into the bookies across the street. never saw the attraction of it, it's a loser's game. would love to see some stats on the age groups of gamblers, my stereotypical image of gamblers are old bored men with far too much time on their hands.

depends on the type of gambling. It can make a sporting event way more interesting and exciting for you if you've money on the outcome. Obviously within reason though.

horse racing is bollox. dog racing even more so. Things like football or golf though - you can read form in sports like those a little better so as long as people aren't blowing the shopping budget, I don't see the harm of betting on those.

Personally I wouldn't bother me hole though.

Vegas style gambling is definitely for losers. If you go visit the place, by all means partake to see what the fuss is about (did it meself once), but be realistic. Whatever budget you set yourself, be prepared (and expect) to lose. In my case it was $20 and I got to avail of the nice cheap accommodation on offer (10 dollars to park a camper van).

poker is bollox. It can be sociable, but mostly its bollox.

Unless it's one of these i'm not interested

especially after my guaranteed win at the world cup didn't pan out :/

I think its funny how they try to control boozing, fair enough I suppose, yet they let Bookies open everyfuckingwhere.

Ha! yeah. Inchicore has about 4 of them - all within 2 or 3 mins walk of each other.

€3.6 billion though! You could double that if the On-Line figures were taken into account.

Swords main street has about 6 or more of them and precious little else anymore except fast food joints. We'll always have the newly renovated 600 yr old castle though.

Two memorable gambling related songs...

I usually have a football accumulator on the weekends never more then a couple of euro and it keeps me entertained when watching Soccer Saturday.

I used to bet on horses if I got a tip off any mates but soon realised for the one occassional winner I'd earn more not following tips.

The majority of bookies I've been in have been packed full of Asian folks as opposed to old lads losing their pensions..... mad for gambling the Asians apparently, they socialise in bookies like we would pubs according to a friend who works in Boylesports ?!?!

In 1995 I read that Mystic Meg was backing Everton to win the FA cup. I sent My old man to the bookies to put £50 on at 66/1 he said grand. then pocketed the cash and intended to give me back the £50 when we got knocked out. Then this happened

On the final whistle he gave me my fifty back and mumbled something about the dangers of gambling.

All in all I didn't give a shit and reasoned that if he'd made the bet we probably wouldn't have won.

And I haven't bet on football since.
