Protest at the national deportation centre
Residents Against Racism

2pm, Thursday 27 October

Garda National Immigration Bureau
Burgh Quay
Central Dublin
(Opposite Liberty Hall)

On Tuesday 18 October, the state carried out a mass deportation of 46
people
to Nigeria. Many of those people were deported from the Garda National
Immigration Bureau (GNIB) in central Dublin.

Running battles took place between gardaí and supporters of Residents
Against Racism. This succeeded in buying time and saving some of the
intended victims from deportation. It also highlighted the real nature
of
deportation, as numbers of gardaí were drafted in to smuggle people out
of
the GNIB back entrance, and to literally drag one woman along the
street to
a waiting garda van. Three protestors were arrested, and two of them
are in
court on 26 and 27 October. (Further reports are on the Indymedia
newswire.)

The GNIB is the national deportation centre, the administrative heart
of the
machine that drags people away to be kicked out of the country to face
a
desperate fate that the state couldn’t care less about. Opponents of
state racism need to highlight the reality of the brutal activities
that
take place in the national deportation centre, and show solidarity with
the
refugees who have that prospect hanging over them. This protest is our
next
opportunity to do that.

how can you keep up to date with future deportations? so as to mobilise more people in time.

There in lies the problem.. The state has a habit of unannounced deportations..
Generally one can guess by the amount of people that are asked to report on a certain day..
I and others will post the latest info here and on Indymedia as and when we get it..
If you are interested in getting involved in RAR, they have regular meetings at 7pm on Fridays in Dublin..PM me for details if you like..

unfortunately i'm living in the uk at the moment.

but if i move back i'll give you a shout.

You know what I've never heard about? These people that get deported, the ones that apparently are being sent back to face almost certain death, them being killed.

Can anyone point me to credible stories about horrible shit happening to folks that the government have deported?

don't know where to find reports about actual incidents. i would imagine there are a few but it's not like the government are gonna go over and check out the situation for the lads and let us all know how the're getting along. there's fuck all chance for getting asylum 'cos you don't want your daughter disfigured by FGM but it's common practice in nigeria, for example.
