Two prolific Irish independent musicians team up for a robotic interstellar synth-pop band.

As members of already-productive bands, Conor Adams and Lar Kaye would want to have a good reason for starting another project. As a songwriter, guitarist and vocalist, Adams' has received acclaim for his music with The Cast Of Cheers while Lar Kaye, a guitar and effects wizard has worked his magic with Adebisi Shank and No Spill Blood. So it becomes obvious upon listening to the music of TVVINS that there's something very different going on here. Adams and Kaye's other bands could be categorised in the rock realm – where drums and bass drive the rhythm and guitars lead the way.

TVVINS' music showcases an interstellar alchemy that results from unique collaboration and a different palette of sounds. It establishes itself in a different realm via treated vocal effects, guitars that sound like vintage synthesizers, tropical pop rhythms, spacious drums, arpeggiated electro sounds and callbacks to anthemic AM radio rock. Adams and Kaye have been in the same circle of friends since they were teenagers but they first started making music together as TVVINS in the summer of 2013 while their respective projects were on a downtime period.

The pair share a broad range of musical influences and so, after talking about what the music would sound like before they recorded a note, they got together to write. They relished the process of songwriting with a new partner. “We are used to a certain way of doing things with the same musicians,” says Kaye. “So, with this, the writing process is quite different and it's really fresh and interesting to see how other people approach writing a song.” For TVVINS we write songs collaboratively so they're all specifically written just for this band, from the basic ideas to the finished songs, which is a new approach for us too.”

TVVINS play upstairs at Whelan’s on Thursday 27 February. Tickets (€11 inclusive) go on sale from Ticketmaster and WAV on Wednesday 29 January 2014.
