WORD OF MOUTH AGENCY PRESENTS

THE CERTAIN THREE TOUR 2015

JOAN SHELLEY | JOHN BLEK | VIKESH KAPOOR

The Workman’s Club, Tuesday 24 February

"…the Certain Three Tour..an annual start-of-year taster for acts we’re hopefully going to be seeing
and hearing a lot more of." The Irish Times

February sees the sixth outing of The Certain Three Tour. Curated by Word of Mouth Agency, the annual tour has grown to be a staple of the Irish music scene over the past few years, acclaimed for combining up-and-coming international and Irish acts and sending them out on the road, and we are delighted to welcome the show to The Workman’s Club on Tuesday, 24 February.

This year's lineup returns to the tour's more folk-oriented roots and will feature a trio of solo performances from Kentucky songwriter Joan Shelley (No Quarter Records), Pennsylvanian balladeer Vikesh Kapoor (Loose Music) and Cork's John Blek (of John Blek & The Rats)

Joan Shelley has been described by Rolling Stone as "A Kentucky singer with Sandy Denny timbre and a clarity of tone like Miles Davis' horn circa Kind of Blue...kinda folk, sorta slowcore and vaguely country, projecting a huge, resplendently pained serenity"

Her second album Electric Ursa was recorded in Louisville, Kentucky and has received glowing praise from the press. Check out her video (featuring a collaboration with labelmate Nathan Salsburg)

Corkman John Blek's Cutting Room Floor is an intimate collection of nine alt-folk songs compiled by John since the release of John Blek & the Rats' last album 18 months ago. This solo endeavour began simply as a longing to document some songs that had fallen by the wayside, but turned into a strong collection of live acoustic performances that needed to be shared. Hot Press called John ‘The Rebel County’s answer to Ryan Adams and his Cardinals" Have a look at the gorgeous video for Kathleen:

Last, but certainly not least, we welcome Vikesh Kapoor. The Ballad Of Willy Robbins, Kapoor's concept album loosely based on a newspaper article, chronicles the brutal but hopeful story of a working class man who slowly loses everything. It was released in April 2014 on Loose, co-produced by Adam Selzer(M. Ward) and features Nate Query (Decemberists, Black Prairie), Jeff Ratner (Langhorne Slim) and Birger Olsen (Denver). It was recently chosen by Rough Trade as one of their albums of the year for 2014. The Observer called the record ‘an impressive debut.’ See the video for Bottom Of The Ladder

As part of the tour, the three songwriters will travel together to play intimate shows around Ireland, including the eagerly anticipated show at The Workman’s Club, before embarking on their respective UK tours. Previous incarnations of The Certain Three Tour has featured acts as diverse as The Altered Hours, O Emperor, We Cut Corners, The Lost Brothers and Alessi’s Ark, amongst many others.
