Anyone watch this on TG4? It's a French documentary series with Irish redub with that really serious presenter. Some of them are excellent. The one last night about America's New Poor is one of the most depressing things I've ever seen. Says I to the Missus "I bet you $100 Cleveland will be on it" and lo and behold 'twas. Cleveland was on another documentary the previous night on TG4 where they likened it to a "sad blues song".
The documentary last night had a 60 yr old man whose home of 35 years was repossessed moving in with his 90 yr old mother in her old folks' home. It also had a man from New Orleans explaining how his whole neighbourhood had been pretty much washed away. The whole thing made me very sad and very angry.
I think European documentary makers have a field day showing the how the poorest live in the US. It's easier for them than pointing the cameras into the poverty on their own doorsteps.
