It's like when someone is showing they're disgusted by something, but they're not really. Kind of mocking.

Something to do with fans, as in these things.

It's doing my head in.

It's an expression, not just one word.

In my mind's eye I'm seeing a scene like something out of the Mikado and all these gentlemen are murmuring behind their fans, going 'Oh yes, that's terrible altogether' but not really meaning it.

Maybe it's nothing to do with fans. Or the Mikado. Maybe I dreamt it.
