Electric Picnic 2008 (1 Viewer)

from the bodytonic website about the picnic

"The Bernard Shaw is our pub in Portobello, Dublin. We're gonna bring that hedonistic vibe to Electric Picnic for the first time. Whether we can bring the pool table and the Bucky is another thing, but if we put our minds to it, anything is possible. Scribble, Antics, bands, art, exhibitions, graffiti, Thumped.com, our mental all day Sunday disco-funk session 12 will all be in full effect. Saturday's party will be announced soon and is gonna be special. Overall, it will be messy, dirty and sweaty, and the toilets probably won't work. Perfect"

Nice to see dubstep acts on the bodytonic stage where the sound might actually be good. I couldn't even hear Skream last year, never mind feel any bass! Their line up throws up a few new nice acts, esp Benga, the Count & Sinden, Diplo & of course Modeselektor. Will be hard to top the 2006 foggy notions stage headline finisher. That was amazing.

Picnic

20 more acts announced for Electric Picnic
Electric Picnic 2008
The Boutique Music & Arts Festival
29th, 30th & 31st August
Stradbally Hall, Co. Laois

The ever-colourful line up for Electric Picnic continues to blossom and fascinate as more of the most happening acts on the planet hop on board the magic bus to Stradbally this year.
From some of the brightest young acts of 2008 such as Santogold, Crystal Castles and Hercules and Love Affair to emotional artrock stalwarts Elbow and the electro elite of Chromeo, Cut Copy and Tiga and the incredible 14- piece afrobeat orchestra Antibalas. >From rock right through to dance electro, funk, world, and reggae these acts will provide something to suit all picnickers musical tastes at Stradbally Hall this August.

Soulful Mancunians Elbow, with their acclaimed innovative sound and Guy Garvey's candid and evocative lyrics, are a treat not to be missed; Indie rockers Gomez, will be playing their Mercury Award winning album 'Bring it On' in its entirety, as they celebrate its 10th anniversary; Renewed, reinvigorated and refreshed Gemma Hayes promises to delight picnickers with tracks from her new album, Hollow of the Morning. Hayes is certain to lend further warmth to the festival with her smooth honeyed vocals; Hayes will be joined by fellow Irish rockers Giveamanakick and Super Extra Bonus Party. Three years after the instrument mangling of 'We Are the Way Forward', noise rock's version of 'The Odd Couple'. Giveamanakick return catchier, but not quieter with tracks from their new album Cusp; Winners of Choice Music Prize, Super Extra Bonus Party will supply flowing rhymes and energetic vibrations and will no doubt have the crowd bouncing with their inventive soundclash; Atlanta residents The Black Lips will have you strutting and pogoing to their "flower punk". Their live shows have a reputation for raucousness; A further injection of rock royalty for the Picnic comes in the form of Mick Jones formerly of the Clash and former Generation Ex member Tony James who together form Carbon/Silicon. Nebraskan digipunk band The Faint will arrive with a bag full of electro beats and zeitgeist sounds bringing fascination and more to Stradbally
And after all those rifts and rockin' - get your dancing shoes on for Hercules and Love Affair. The work of a four-strong collective from New York spearheaded by DJ and scenester Andrew Butler and lent heavyweight crossover potential by the starring voice Antony (& the Johnsons) Hegarty. Hercules & Love Affair are the kind of 21st century, artful Abba, that Warhol himself might have once fancied into life; With an almost blanket 'album of the week' status for her debut, this Philly based songwriter, singer and producer aka Santogold makes her much welcomed Irish debut at Electric Picnic after cancelling her show earlier this month when she lost her voice after a long European tour. Before she was Santogold, the 32-year-old was a music biz veteran. For a time she was an A&R for the 'urban' department of Epic Records, a pop songwriter for hire (Lily Allen, Ashlee Simpson), the leader of ska revival band Stiffed, and an MC for Spank Rock– Santogold is certifiably 24 carat; Canadian duo, Crystal Castles, will be mixing distorted female vocals with heavy samples; Australian Electro Pop gods Cut Copy are guaranteed to bring the party with music from their new album, In Ghosts, which makes for perfect festival sounds; Expect Lyrics and lasciviousness with future-funk duo Chromeo with lots of analog synths, rock guitars, 808s, rhodes and talk box; Dubstep collectives, Digital Mystikz will be bringing their cutting edge sound consisting of rhythmic beats and disembodied voices. This will be their first time bringing their full collective to Ireland; The Presets will unleash their electro nuggets to dance and sing along to; Another electro wizard Tiga will spin all manner of flashy and trashy electro to delight the masses; Digitalism are German electro house duo Jens Moelle and Ismail Tuefekc. Two robotic types from Hamburg, who trot around the globe dabbling in rock and as well as rave. They will make their way to Stradbally this August to continue their resurrection of dance music.
World beats will be provided by Brooklyn based Antibalas with their 14 piece afrobeat orchestra. Their distinguished sound is a rich mix of jazz, funk and du. Renowned for their relentless live shows their effect is awe inspiring; Reggae vocal trio The Congos will bring their legendary Jamaican flavour to the festival; another addition for world music fans is The Herbaliser Their brand of lush jazz funk demands attention. Arms will be swung and hips swayed to their vintage yet timeless sound.
