For all the Freshers gearing up to move up to the big smoke or those stepping into the cruel world after years of mammyism or even those who have come from distant lands to work in Dublin, we salute you!!
Here's a few ideas for getting around dublin on the cheap, add to them if you can: -
Free Phone Calls- All FAS offices have telephones that are unmonitored and supposed to be for ringing prospective employers, remember the key to getting a job is networking that means your friends get you jobs so how can you feel guilty using these phones to ring your mates to arrange a night in whelans or ringing friends at home in Sydney. FAS offices are located on Dolier St and on the Jervis Street end of Middle Abbey Street.
Cheap Lunch- If you walk down middle abbey street on the side opposite the abbey theatre there is a turn off to a street that will bring you down the street that brings you to Talbot ST, can't remember the name but the Dublin Bus canteen is here and you can pick up a full irish breakfast for a mere 3 euro cos it's subsidised, don't feel guilty about ripping them off, there's a mutual psychological contract between Dublin Bus and the Public, they won't return your 5 cent when you put in 1 euro 50 on a 1.45 fare and they'll put it towards your subsidised meal. This is an unspoke rule and as so if anyone in the canteen asks you who you are tell them your from the Cunningham Road Garage and it's your day off. You can also do this in most hospitals if you get pally with a nurse or doctor.
Directory Inquiries- Sick of being charged crazy prices for looking up Mizonnis number ? Here's the number for directory inquiries that was given to a friend of mine by mistake 01 8190086 it's an ordinary dublin local number!!
Free entry to any concert - If your in a wheel chair ask the security man to let you in for free, they tend to let you in for free
Free taxi - Ok this is just for emergencies, a pissed guy told me this so i don't know if it will work and you need a hard neck to do it, find out what your nearest garda station is, get a taxi and near your home give out that you think he's fiddled the fare and ask to be brought to the guards, the law says that the taximan has to bring you to the guards if you ask, the guards will just tell you to complain to the carriage office in the morning which you don't bother doing and you just have to walk home from your local copshop. If anyone does this they're a legend and a brave person.
