Does your band use a regular sound engineer? (3 Viewers)

I've done sound in pretty much every venue in Dublin and most around the country.
bands actually made it much harder than the job needs to be. If everyone turns up on time and a gig is run like a days work rather than just a hobby then everything would be cool. when soundcheck is supposed to be 5 pm, everyone should be there by 4. this allows time for the sound man to work with the room, no matter if its an odd shaped room or not a good sound guy should be able to get at least a decent sound.

bad sound isn't always the sound man's fault, sometimes it is, alot of the time musicians have a tendency to turn their amps up and move away from mic's while singing and stuff.

The problem with in souse guys is that they tend to try and make everything sound like it's coming from a radio and explaining that you want a lo-fi sound or a specific sound is no use. also most of them are good but they have to deal with an awful lot of shit bands... give them a break (unless they start off grumpy, then you're screwed).

Training your mate isn't an option, getting a guy just off a sound course is almost pointless. one member of a band should learn how to do it and stand with the in-house guy while the checks are happening, get someone else to check his instrument.

the importance of just being a helpful, comunicative and organised band cannot be overstated.
for example, only one band member playing their instrument at a time during soundcheck.

don't bite the hand that feeds etc.

Like not arguing with the sound engineer about the correct interpretation of what is means for a drum to be "in tune" for example? :):):):):)

To react on the digital desk issue. A digital desk is very handy to save settings but in the end it doesnt work as quick as an analog desk. A digital desk could be very confusing and i do think that they dont sound as good as an analog desk. When i work live meanly in Radiocity as a house engineer, ill try to use separate channels for the mean act by patching over. This includes not the drums and bass cause these are always soundin good. But meanly vocals and guitars and i think that it all ready makes a huges differents by doing this.
And one more thing about saving settings for you own band and loading them in in different venues is possible but not a good ideal cause every venues has a different acoustics and frequenty response.
