After a recent e-mail debate with a fellow Thumper about whether disco is shit or not, I've concluded that disco must be one of the most misunderstood genres going. I read a book called Love Saves The Day which focuses on the Downtown New York disco scene in the 70's, the author reckons the backlash was mostly due to its sudden popularity. Personally, I blame Saturday Night Fever.

Anyway, here's a few classics.
Machine - There but for the grace of God go I
Class Action - Weekend (Larry Levan remix)
MFSB- Love is the message
Sylvester (Yor make me feel) Might Real
Donna Summer - I Feel Love
Dinosaur L - Go Bang
Undisputed Truth- You+me=love
Unlimited Touch - I hear music in the Streets

Shitloads more too. Do you have any favourites or do you think it's all shit?

theyre good pop songs. is disco all about singles and dancing though or are there any good disco albums with one excellent floor filler after the other? apart from disco hits 1977 and shit like that.

i like that "you to me are everything" song - might be more of a ballad

is good cos they're all the extended versions.

also ra-ra-rasputin is the most blindingly brilliant piece of music in existence

More of a singles thing. There's bound to be exceptions but most of the time it was just 12"s

yea, disco is the bomb

chic- open up
cloud one- disco juice
dr buzzards original savannah band- i'll play the fool
ashford & simpson- bourgie bourgie (amazing)
giorgio moroder- i wanna rock you
idris mohammed- could heaven ever be like this
loose joints- is it all over my face
taana gardner- heartbeat

so much good shit

Turn the Beat Around by Peter Sahpiro is the best book about Disco i've read, even touches on the post-punk crossover with Bush Tetras et al, and also on Italo, but sadly not too much on the Italo front.
He serisously lays into Saturday Night Fever, which is kind of funny.

this is a good site http://www.discopia.com/
think one of the lads invovled is irish too.

but yeah Wobbler Disco is deadly.

Some people consider it house, but all the best songs on it sound like disco to me. Really really good disco. A fantastic album.

thats because it is house ;) only messing, yeah good record.

i like alot of that Fania type stuff.

alot of those labels really pushed the boat out mixing traditional styles with what was going on at the time.
