John Blek's Cutting Room Floor
Recorded over one 20 hour session in a friend's home, 'Cutting Room Floor' is an intimate collection of 9 alt folk songs compiled by John since the release of John Blek & the Rats' last album 18 months ago. This solo endeavour began simply as a longing to document some songs that had fallen by the way side, but turned into a strong collection of live acoustic performances that needed to be shared. The process involved very little overdubs and focuses on the strength of John's lyrics and vocal performance.
John Blek & The Rats
Born in the modern day dust bowl that is Ireland, John Blek & The Rats take inspiration from range of musical styles such as the outlaw country of Willie Nelson, the protest ballads of Woody Guthrie, the 100 mile-an-hour lyricism of Jack Keruoac and the melancholic country rock of Neil Young. Despite their musical roots being deeply embedded in the past, John Blek & The Rats have a sound that is fresh and modern, while also doffing its hat to a gone bye era. The streak of melancholy that runs throughout their music is tempered only by their penchant for footstomping rhythms and contagious choruses, a passion for revelry and, at times, lunacy.
In May 2013, John Blek & The Rats released their debut album ‘Leave Your Love At The Door’, receiving positive reviews and featuring on national radio and television.
