The Parlour (Upstairs in the Stag’s Head, Dublin), March 31st, 2004
A songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of some repute, Deanna Varagona is best known on these shores as a member the idiosyncratic and brilliant LAMBCHOP. Her most recent release on Gadfly Records, "The Goodbyes Have All Been Taken. Hello", has been described in the All Music Guide as “an austere and emotional collection that often sounds like music that came down from the mountains many years ago”. Ranging from folk to twang, she lays her southern soul bare with a passion born in the Appalachian Mountains but bred in a world of a punk rock youth. She has collaborated with Paul Burch & the WPA Ballclub, been the sidekick siren of Chris Mills, and has been seen sitting in on baritone sax or sweet harmonies with the likes of Yo La Tengo, John Wesley Harding, Neutral Milk Hotel and the Silos. Deanna currently resides in Chicago and has performed to enthusiastic crowds at SXSW, NXNE and has shared bills with Vic Chestnut, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Richard Buckner, The Lonesome Organist and others.
