Just buy your records from small Distros - always cheaper and none of this bulshit customs charges.

Andy,
Have you got any Clara Rockmore albums/material that you could copy for me?
Like pop it in the post whenever or something?I`d get you back with something else.
The keyboardist from "a certain famous band" burned the ear off me about her last time they played, he wrote her name down for me in case i forgot!Then again i was pretty smashed......maybe i dreamt it all??
Anyways....see what you can muster....Got some new Merzbow/astricks(sp), and Collection of Colonies of Bees which you`d shit yourself over!

If you get the seller to mark the items as "Gifts" or "used items" you should get away grand with it. That's good for ebay but if it's from a reputable American website or so, you'd have trouble getting them to mark stuff like that.

The gift thing is good. For a little bit extra, you can get stuff gift-wrapped, and customs won't be able to charge because they have no way of telling what's in the package. That's how it works on Amazon anyway.

In the case of getting stuff shipped from the states be careful saying it's a gift thing because most parcel services only allow you to insure gifts up to $100. So if what your being sent is worth over that you're leaving fate in the hands of some dufus in a sorting office. I lost a wurlitzer piano that way.

Dudes,
just in case someone cares about this shit, got this back from UPS re: their charges.
Vat/Duty is calculated based on the invoice value, In this case the invoice
value is USD $ 42.25, The Customs rate of exchange for the USD for May is
1.1836.

42.25/1.1836 = €35.69. If there is no freight shown on the commerical
invoice, Customs insist that UPS show the equivalent UPS freight charge as
agreed with Customs on the Customs document.

1kg to 2.5kgs = €33.00

Therefore €35.69 + €33.00 = €68.69.

Duty on CD's / DVD's is charged at 3.5%, €68.69 x 3.5% = €2.40.

The Duty is then added to the €68.69 = €71.09, Vat is then calculated at
21%, €71.09 x 21% = €14.92.

UPS also charge a Fee for the use of their Account with Customs. This fee is
a minimum of €12.70, Vat on this fee is €2.67.

Duty = €2.40
Vat = €14.92
Dis Fee = €15.37

Total = €32.69

Whats with this 'fee for the use of their account"?
Holy Shmoley. Once again, the lesson to be learned, UPS aint shit to mess with.
