COSMO VITELLI

32 years old french DJ, Cosmo Vitelli, was born in Paris but spent his first 8 years in Africa.
In the mid 90’s, he got involved in different french indie bands, playing both guitar and bass. But he soon felt attracted by the raising parisian electronic scene (later called « French touch ») and became DJ and producer.
He signed on the Parisian label Solid (with fellows Air, Etienne De Crecy, Alex Gopher…) and released an LP, « Video » in 1998, and many singles like the acclaimed « We don’t need no smurf here », « Party Day », « Robot soul » or « Icons ».
His long awaited second LP, « Clean », finally came out in 2003 through Labels/Virgin ( and Astral Werks in the USA). Then, he spent time touring as DJ in Europe, Japan, Russia, etc, and became in the same time remixer for the likes of Daft Punk, Cassius, Super Discount, Benjamin Diamond, Electronicat, Lacquer, The Film, etc…
In 2004, he created his own label, « I’m a cliché » and released material by producers Simian Mobile Disco, Tacteel, Aysam or Dirty 30.
Alongside, Kitsune released Marco Dos Santos « Not on the guest-list », a parodic pop project he wrote and produced.
He's also half of Bot'Ox , a duo with [T]ékël’s Julien Briffaz.
His last singles were « Delayer », out earlier this year (featuring a Quiet Village remix) and two new Bot’ox 12 ‘’, « Hummer Party » (on I’m a cliché), and « Drive By shooting » (Marketing).

RARELY SEEN ABOVE GROUND

Jeremy Hickey AKA Rarely Seen Above Ground is a multi-instrumentalist who happens to play drums. And now, on his new eight-track album he plays it all down! Every instrument in the mix on this extraordinary project was layered and laid down by Hickey himself; the textures are brilliant and the mood is glorious to see.

As one half of The Blue Ghost the NME referred to his music as an event that comes and goes from the “72% of the human brain we don’t normally use” and RSAG brings shape and clarity to that undiscovered space. He succeeds in setting these tones and moods in his music because he has an innate sense of sound and sight as feeling and mood. He recalls that "When I was nine or something around that time I used to collect paint tins, buckets and trays. With wooden spoons for sticks this was my first experience of what could be done with beats and tones."

With RSAG you can hear these tones for yourself because every sound is music to him and this album is rife with unusual hooks, menacing basslines and ungovernable, fitful rhythms. And yet if he refuses to govern he has nonetheless turned his armoury of instruments into a vehicle for euphonious percussion moodswings which are in turn blown fair by fresh, intermittent waves of unorthodox melodies. Harmony for RSAG is from leftfield and it soothes the cacophony with texture, texture always striking.

RSAG’s musical influences range from Fela Kuti to Radiohead and from Tortise to Talking Heads but musical culture is more than a mix tape and RSAG is a proper trigger for musical ideas. Give RSAG a listen and listen for the colour of serious sounds textured in the heart and head."

DEEP BURIAL

Deep Burial was started 10 years ago. The idea was to make instrumental hip hop, making up for the fact that we didn't have Raekwon or Mobb Deep to rhyme on our beats by making the music more rugged and angular. To attempt this most of the digging for samples was done in the Punk/New Wave/Noise section. Whether the idea was achieved or not it resulted in a split 12" with Decal and an album on Ultramack called Blood Samples, the title of which was a phrase which sprang out of a Chino XL song and seemed to sum up the feel of the album.

The next couple of years were spent writing, digging and playing some live sets. It was early 1999. We were watching a lot of zombie movies. What better type of movie to watch in the middle of Celtic Tiger frenzy when the whole country turned into money munching zombies. Yes you, you fucker! Anyway enough politics, we decided to start work on an EP based on the films and started to dig for appropriate sounds and samples. It helped that our friend seemed to be involved in some bizarre underground zombie VHS ring and passed them all on to us in all their hissy glory. The EP came out in 2001 and was called the Undead.

Since then we've been digging for more samples and putting together the album we've just finished. It's called Black Music and we're prouder of this than anything else we've done.
