Concern Fastival 2010

The Concern Fastival is 24 hours of fun, friends, fundraising and fasting to help raise one million euro to treat malnourished children. We are still asking people to Fast for 24 hours and to raise sponsorship but this year it will be with a difference. We’re going to make it a fun, social experience that people can do with their friends. There will be a variety of events throughout the country which Fasters can attend for free during their 24 hours fast, registration is necessary so please go to www.concernfastival.net to do so. Friends are welcome to attend by buying a ticket.

The Jimmy Cake
Formed in 2000 from the simmering ashes of the recently defunct Das Madman, the Jimmy Cake were only initially to play a one off show in Eamonn Dorans. But people kept coming, and the music kept getting louder.
Following on from 2008s critically acclaimed Spectre and Crown, The Jimmy Cake have a new set and a new sound. Reduced from a cast of hundreds to a slimmed down six piece, we find the Jimmy Cake’s music equally stripped back: where once there were strings, accordion and tubas there is now the esoteric appeal of the vintage synths and tightly coiled, pounding rhythms. Guitars are back, and they mean to do some business. Headlifting, powerful, hypnotic, the Jimmy Cake have embraced change once more, and, it’s with this feckless bravado in mind that they embark on their latest adventure. In 2009 they have played to a full Meeting House Sq at the DEAF fundraiser and on the Crosby Stage at Electric Picnic. Expect a new album this summer.

Patrick Kelleher and his Cold Dead Hands
Taking inspiration from 80s minimal synth / DIY bedroom electronics and the early 4AD / Factory Records / Mute Records scenes, Contact Sports evokes the ghostly sounds of Robert Rental and John Foxx's early works. Patrick Kellehers first new release since the critically acclaimed You Look Cold album, sees a move into a more upbeat, yet dark and moody dancefloor mover.

Nouveaunoise
have in their four year existence, become one of the most innovative and exciting bands to come out of Ireland’s fledgling electronica scene. Their debut album Paraphrase Accolade was released to rapturous reviews from publications in Ireland and abroad and was followed by a tour which culminated at this years Electric Picnic. A highly anticipated new EP is expected to drop in early 2011.

Clockwork Noise
A combination of dramatic vocals, cutting lyrics and hook-driven violin lines, Clockwork Noise are a five-piece band from Co Wicklow, Ireland.

Clockwork Noise have been described as ‘a cut above the usual indie-rock standard’ by Jim Carroll in the new music section of The Ticket, The Irish Times, ‘fearless’ by Rocksellout.com, ‘A band with all the talent and drive needed to succeed’ by Connected Magazine and ‘filled to the brim with warmth and emotion’ by State.ie. The band have also been profiled by Phantom presenter Cathal Funge on his programme, Icon.

The band have returned to the studio to begin recording a full-length album, produced by Torsten Kinsella (God Is An Astronaut). In the spirit of modern technology, the album’s recording sessions are being broadcast live on Clockwork Noise’s Justin.tv channel.
