REVOLUTIONARY RAPPER IN DEBUT IRISH PERFORMANCE

“When an artist or group distance themselves from the standard rap formula, when they set out to make real music and are unwilling to compromise their integrity for the sake of making a dollar, it's time to listen.” – Latinrapper.com

“Criticizing critics, coffee shop revolutionaries, Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, John Ashcroft and George W. Bush, Immortal Technique's magnetic delivery makes every song a joy to listen to…” – Pitchfork

“Hip-hop’s Chomsky.” – URB Magazine

Underground legend, revolutionary leader, accomplished battle champion, and an independent success selling more than 135,000 units without a major label, Immortal Technique has just released one of the most anticipated albums of 2008, The 3rd World.

Born in a military hospital in South America, Immortal Technique was brought to the United States in the early 80s while a civil war was breaking out in his native Peru. Exchanging the struggle and turmoil of a life in South America for the streets of New York in the mid 80s, Immortal Technique’s family migrated to Harlem.

With a violent and often lawless element in the city of New York during that era, Immortal Technique eventually ended up serving some time incarcerated. Upon being paroled, Technique immediately began entering local area battles and taking the skills he had gained at rhyming to the forefront of the NYC underground hip-hop scene. He won just about every battle that the city had before realizing he could really get the ideas and concepts for songs across much better with the release of his own music.

He relied on his skills as a battle rapper using all the money from contests he had won to create a CD featuring some of the work he completed in prison – the project turned into a 17-track album, Revolutionary Vol. 1.

In early 2004 he released Revolutionary Vol. 2. The album became an instant underground classic and generated a massive tour schedule. Technique began working with DJ Green Lantern (DJ for Jay Z & Sirius Satellite) and wrote his infamous “Bin Laden” track featuring Mos Def, which served to cement his reputation as a “socialist guerilla”. (The single and remix feature Public Enemy’s Chuck D and KRS 1). Authentic and controversial, Technique has graced publications like The Source, XXL, The Washington Post, Playboy and even featured on the cover of URB magazine.

While working on the follow up Revolutionary Vol. 3, Technique featured on several movie soundtracks, video-game soundtracks, toured relentlessly, became heavily involved in visiting prisons to speak to the youth, worked with immigrant rights activists, and raised thousands of dollars for children’s hospitals.

In 2007, Technique and Green Lantern decided to do a mixtape/album together. Finally they have completed their vision of colliding their worlds into one full-length album. The 3rd World was released earlier this year.

This is going to be an unmissable gig from a guy who tells it like it is. Keep it real and join us at Andrew's Lane to see Immortal Technique bring his bi-lingual political versatility to the mic.

Dublin's own Infomatics will be warming up, mashing up hip-hop, electronica, soul, jazz and reggae in their own inimitable style.
