Since there's a load of lardlordy/renting a gaffy thread knocking around I'm going to chip in with my own.

Does anyone know anywhere good for cheapish furnishings (stuff like lamps and bath mats)? I need to replace a few things before either the landlord or letting agent throttle me.

If you did, check it. The likes of bath mats are rarely on them. Landlords tend to not do bath mats, because they get lost or destroyed or thrown out all the time.
