so what's the story - blurb in the event guide said new works by donnchadh costello, jurgen simpson, guy from dublin guitar quartet and a few others... is this gonna be classical or guitar/electronic stuff?

National Concert Hall - John Field Room - Mon 14th - Composers’ Choice - Jürgen Simpson and Judith Ring - 8.00pm

This concert represents an opportunity to hear artists from areas such as electronica, free improvisation, jazz, and the DIY rock scene, present specially commissioned works which are informed by all these traditions and underscore the fertile convergences and permeable boundaries characteristic of the best contemporary music.

Pre-concert talk with the composers 6.30-7.15pm.

a performance by o'connor... beter than porn.
the kind of porn where a man and a goat and another man, but only a wee little one, and this other man, and he's got the body of a gayt dance, and we all know what that means, and they're all together, perhaps in the nip, lets imagien the heatings broken, and they're complaining about the amount of football on the tv saying :"if there was fifteen documenteries about stockhausen on a week, all these butch football watching bastards would be livid," and then the one with the body of a gay dancer leans over and kisses the little man, imagine so little he's actually terrifying, and then goat goes, why am i here? my agent promised me i'd be richard geres face double in his latest moves: as smug as it gets, featuring sting and ronan.

etc.

My money's on Colin Farrell to play the one with the body of a gay dancer

Hey up

JUst a reminder about the thing in the Concert Hall tonight. From the jimmy cake there'll be myself, Paul Smyth and Jurgen Simpson. Me and Jurgen have pieces being performed, and Paul is doing a 5 minute piano piece himself. Also on the bill is a new trio by Brian Bolger (Dublin Guitar Quartet), an ensemble piece by Roy Carroll from Trouble Penetrator, a double bass/electronics piece by Judith Ring, and a new piece by Donnacha Costello (Uptown Racquet Club) for Bass Clarinet and electronics.

Before the concert at 6.30 there'll be a pre-show talk with the composers which should be quite embarassing. That'll be over at about 7.15, then the concert proper starts at 8pm. Its a tanner in, do come along I reckon it'll be a really good night. And when would you riff-raff ever get to go to the concert hall anyway ?

MISTAH BAD LUNATIC

I heard it went really well. Big crowd and the concert hall were delighted with the attendance so hopefully they'll put on more of this sort of thing in the future.
Damn my lazy arse for not making it down.

I hear ya.

So how was it? Anyone go?

very good - i really enjoyed it. so much that i was inspired to drink far too many pints afterwards and am still feeling enfeebled.

a bit late with this one but me own opinion on it was that it was too experimental and random for me to enjoy but then again it wouldn't have been pitched at the likes of me. i thought donnchadh costello's piece was interesting - reminded me of autechre a little the way it built up but the rest of the pieces i couldn't grasp\didn't enjoy. i'd like to see more of this sort of thing though if the results were a little less 'difficult'\experimental\improv' but that's just a personal taste.
