No European country prohibits marriage between first cousins. It is also legal throughout Canada and Mexico to marry your cousin. The U.S. is the only western country with cousin marriage restrictions.

i just googled 'marry my cousin'. hmmm.

i'm pretty sure that the church in ireland traditionally 'policed' cousin marriage, hence having to have a priest interview/validate couples who wanted to get married.

i'm pretty sure that the church in ireland traditionally 'policed' cousin marriage, hence having to have a priest interview/validate couples who wanted to get married.

A girl in my class married her cousin and they had to get the local priest to write to the Vatican to do it. Don't know about other religions though.

Just remembered, they were under 18 so that might be why.
