Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Whelan's, July 28 (1 Viewer)

Brilliant gig. I would have loved to stay listening to him for hours.
I'm already jealous of everyone going tonight.

I was at the gig last night and thought they were pretty marvellous. Oldham was intense and Kelly is a superb guitarist and backup. Very very good show.

Deadly gig last night. I've some catching up to do on his albums. Thought The Cairo Gang were one of the best backing bands I've ever seen in my life

Where can I find that "go folks go forth" song? Is that the one from the 7" that you're talking about above?

thats on wonder show main l.p. - he didn't play 'you win' last night.

am i the only person who thinks both nights suffered from the presence of lavinia blackwall and (to a lesser extent) alex nielsen? the harmonies were painful at times and nielsen is a clunky, average drummer. gimme jim white/michael zerang any day.

thought last night was more focused, less jovial. better sound too, but apart from that bizarre medley, no older tunes. wednesday had a nice version of i see a darkness.

I reckon his new album with the Cairo Gang is his best since Master & Everyone. I think he had a bit of a lull between those two but not much of a lull in fairness. There's a great live album called "Is it the sea?" which is him with Harem Scarem who were his backing band the last time he played two nights in Whelans. If he's even half as good in Galway tonight as he was with Harem Scarem that time it'll still be incredible. Here's hoping for something from Master & Everyone and Ease Down The Road.
