Best Gig You Ever Saw? (1 Viewer)

Slayer & Nuclear Assault. Damn the fact that I was away for that.

Okay, I have a question. I was at Malkmus in the Ambassador and I thought it was one of the worst things I had ever seen. Sound was bad, music and performance were self-congratulatory and throwaway, that bird of his desperately jiggling her tits and shouting was just horrific. I just can't see what anyone could have liked about it.
I went home and sold my Pavement records on Ebay.

The question is: is it because I am old?
What was I missing?

damn your foreign hide, old. it was THE gig of the twentieth century.

the slayer one. not the malkmus one.

are you....are you lot all deaf / blind? That was one of the worst gigs I have ever, ever had the misfortune to attend. That stupid fucking cow of a girlfriend of his, hogging the limelight and utterly convinced all the applause was for her. GRR ARGH. Plus the sound was nothing short of atrocious. And this is not coming from a 'oh Pavement were much better' bitter perspective, I fucking adore the Jicks and went to London to see their first European show, sans, I might add, Nightmare Burd, and it was EXCELLENT. And shortly after the Ambassador show I saw them at Reading, with very much toned down irritating cow-girl and it was a far better gig.

So now.

I'm old too, and was also at that Malkmus gig.

Totally agree, it was horrendous.

Like you said sound, attitude of band and superfluous annoying Malkmus girlfriend were all awful.

A lazy, shameful, deeply disappointing gig.

poo poo

Erin McKeown - Preachers, Limerick. Best Gig ever

It's at this point I usually wheel out my anecdote about meeting them in Heathrow and getting their autographs two days before the Dublin gig, but even I'm bored of it by now.

I still say Suicidal Tendencies and MOD in Top Hat was great though.
And Faith No More and Prong.

i was at that mod suicidal tendencies thing. i missed most if not all of it due to tongue wresting with various luvvlies. tyhen i got billy milanos autograph and the polis kicked me off teh train on teh way home. grand days.

The Muffin men, a tribute to Frank Zappa in Whelans in May,
Carter USM in the Mean Fiddler in '97,
George Clinton and Funkadelic in the Red Box in 01
Warlords of Pez in Whelans last week
Melt Banana, Wire, Oxes and the Breeders in ATP
oh, and Elastica. Anytime anywhere. (Justine, I Love you)

the breeders, the tivoli, around 93/94?
orbital , feile cork, '96?
orbital, the olympia, '99
belle & sebastian  manchester town hall, '97
rod stewart, earls court, '99

and the chalets are *not* the new elastica.
