Bap To the Future Presents Part I of THE ALL CITY BEAT WEEKENDER.

Om Unit (All city, Terrorhythm, Civil Music)

OB (All City)

Laminoid (Bap To The Future)

FREEEEE!

Jim Coles aka 2Tall aka Om Unit started off life as a turntablist, competing in the DMC finals and generally cuttin' the shit out of it in fine style before turning his hand to beatmaking. 'The Softer Diagram' his 2008 album was one of the most unashamedly beautiful to come out of the nascent Beat scene back in 2008. Released without much fanfare on the under-rated content label, it consisted of lush synthwork over neck-snapping beats at a variety of tempos. Suffice to, say it blew our little minds here at Bap HQ.

So when we heard that he was going to be operating under a new moniker, Om Unit, and that the first release under that name would be a release on All City, we were pretty hyped. Little were we expecting the 7 inches of pure heat that comprised "Lavender/Lightgrids"

Using the same unbelievably lush synths as were in evidence on 'The Softer Diagram'. He had replaced the neck-snapping boombappery of tthat LP with an unbelievably lush sub-100bpm four to the floor groove that could easily sit next your Kassem Mosse records in the mix.

Next up he dropped a cheeky 'pop-lock' remix of Joker's digidesign, where he took the original and stretched it into a kraftwerkian-synthed soundtrack to that breakdance scene everyone wishes had been in that gomey Tron remake.

Then last month he released 'The Timps' ep on Civil Music. Now it might seem from the recent flurry of dubsteppers-gone-electro-who-subsequently-think-they-have-reinvented-the-wheel that electro was invented five minutes ago, but no, it's been around for mad years and Mr Unit clearly knows this, as "The Timps" comes correct with some serious drums and a big dirty synth line, that when combined with the kickdrum that drops half way is guaranteed to make you completely lose your shit. We've played this to heads who wouldn't be caught dead dancing to anything released on Swamp81 and they've given it the Direct Beat seal of approval

As can be imagined, as a former DMC finalist, homie's got mad skills on the decks, just witness his Boom Bap Continuum mix (with the always excellent Kper and Clockwork) or his recent video from The Boiler Room

Warming up on the night is All City head honcho Olan O'Brien aka OB, who runs Ireland's best record label, releasig everyone from Hudson Mohawke to Knxwledge.
