It¹s BANTER time again
BANTER returns to the Twisted Pepper (Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1) with discussions in August, September and October.
BANTER is a series of informal monthly discussions about pop culture stuff.
BANTER #1 in early July featured Paul McLoone from Today FM and The Golden Maverick from Power FM talking with Banter host Jim Carroll about the state of music radio in Ireland. You can download a podcast of this discussion at www.thetwistedpepper.com
In the coming months, BANTER will look at DIY culture, the early days of Irish clubland and the new media landscape....All talks are held pre-POGO , Saturday evenings. Some will follow with music , news on that too follow
AUGUST 15
BANTER 2 - THE A TO Z OF DIY
Dylan Haskins (Hideaway House, Exchange Dublin) and Niall McGurk (Hope Promotions) talk about alternative all-age gig spaces in Ireland and the politics of doing gigs in gaffs, church halls and community centres.
The discussion will be preceded by a screening of Roll Up Your Sleeves, Dylan Haskins¹ documenary about DIY culture and alternative ways of organising, working and thinking.
The documentary will be screened at 7.30pm and the discussion will begin at 9pm.
SEPTEMBER 25
BANTER 3 - FINAL SCRATCH ME ARSE
Two pioneers of Irish clubland, Paul Webb and Tonie Walsh, shoot the breeze about the very early days of Irish clubland.
Both Paul and Tonie will be DJ-ing at POGO afterwards
Discussion begins at 8.30pm
OCTOBER 17th
BANTER 4 : MEET THE NEW MEDIA CATS
Poking around in the Venn diagram between blogs, Twitter and the established media with Niall Byrne (Nialler9 blog, State magazine and The Irish Independent¹s Day & Night magazine) and Una Mullally (UnaRocks, The Sunday Tribune and Soundcheck).
Discussion begins at 8.30pm
