arty farty question (1 Viewer)

desperately seeking your approval. I guess it's back to my cry space for now.

Remeber that class?

Lesson One: How to colorize a black and white photograph and also remove any imperfections.

Lesson Eighteen: How to use layers.

?!?!?!

here's an example. is that how you get this? by literally copying and pasting?

god if it were me it would look like a kiddie scribbled all over it............

i LOVE this effect.

the red stuff in these was already red, i just desaturated everything else

if your photo is b & w to start you can outline objects using the polygonal lasso and then go image-adjustments-hue/saturation then check the colorize box and play with the colours. Ive colored some old photos like this, probably better ways but it can look good

here's an example of clipping path stuff..

made a clipping path around the little fella, selected the path and copied it. then desaturated the photo...

then pasted him over and played with some levels and colour balance on the background.

clipping paths all the way. I use the eraser on a lowish opacity to brush up some edges too, which gives it a smoother look.

anyway.. there ya go.

this looks deadly, but theres a lot of pretty hidious stuff like this being done on wedding photos at the moment.

Ive given the whole hand tinting b/w prints a go a few times, its a slow process but the end result is really beautiful, especially on medium format potraits; real old/other worldly.

my favourite hand tinter and general head the ball mr. jan saudek;
