Album Tracklisting (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know much about putting a tracklisting together. I'm here doing it for a friend. Trying to get a good feeling for his album.

Are there any general rules do you think? Fast/Fast/Slow etc?

I tunes is great for flipping the tracks around btw

Personalwise I'd avoid any generic rules whatsoever, it depends totally on the tracks in question. Sometimes fast/slow alternation is good, sometimes it's better to stick a few similar tracks together. Sometimes a big gap between songs is good, sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's good to open with a simple catchy tune, sometimes it's good to start with something grand and subtle. In short, it's impossible to make any sort of all-encompassing recommendations, and I'd be wary of any such you get.

Best/catchiest song goes third. Always.

there's no rules, but my two cents:

best intro goes first
most immidiate songs make up the first five
slow burners the later half
best outro goes last

i dunno though, play with different combinations....

The best thing is to make sure all your songs are equally good and then you can put them in any order you like.
